WANTED: Dedicated Permaculture trainees
The Permaculture Research Institute Sunshine Coast Inc. is looking for dedicated people who want to learn more about Permaculture at a hands on level. They will be trained by Tom and Zaia Kendall on their property Maungaraeeda in Kin Kin, Queensland.
This training is not for the faint hearted: the hours are long (6am until 5 or 6pm), the work is hard (lots of handtools, shoveling, scything, wheelbarrow pushing, cutting, planting, digging etc) and the learning is intense. You will get in depth knowledge of the Permaculture systems and design principles at Maungaraeeda, and you will learn from a PRI accredited Permaculture teacher (see Tom’s bio here). On weekends we ask you do minor jobs (eg animal routines on a Saturday or Sunday morning), but the weekend will mostly be yours.
Please note that this is NOT a paid position: we are offering you a free learning experience, as Tom will take his time showing you how things operate on the property, show and teach you our permaculture systems and self reliance. The more you work with him, the more you will learn. It is your responsibility to find him and be with him on the property to get the most out of your time here. The days are long and the work is hard, but immensely satisfying and empowering. A Permaculture Design Certificate is not required for this training.
You will start on a 3 week probation period, if we like each other and things work out you will be asked to stay for 3 months. At the end of 3 months, if we still like each other and both parties wish to continue, you may be able to stay longer term.
Accommodation is in a tent (supplied by you) for the first 3 weeks. Our facilities are very basic, with compost toilets and wood heated showers. If you end up staying longer than 3 weeks, one of our buses will be made available to you. In the bus you will have a bed and your own lounge space, as well as access to the external communal lounge and kitchen area. You will need to make your own meals in the communal kitchen area. Some food from the property may be available at times. Please beware that the communal lounge and kitchen area may be shared with paying guests from time to time.
We do not allow any drugs, alcohol, chemicals or cigarettes on the property. Please check any soaps, shampoos, sunscreen, insect repellents and toothpastes you bring, whether they have any sulphates or other nasties. If unsure, please ask, we can always supply you with the above items at cost price.
Please only apply if you desire a longer term, intense, hands on learning experience! To apply, please complete and submit the form below. If successful we will contact you the week after the deadline for a conversation. Please be honest in answering the questions, and be honest with yourself. We are after hard working keen learners who would like to make Permaculture their life!
